Expensive, beloved, and the only translation I knew growing up... love.

Representative of my love for those closest to me and that of a culture that, while somewhat present growing up, we were not fully immersed in. One that I am overtime reconnecting with.

Representative of feminine energy, renewal, and the changing of a new day.

My rediscovery of who I am as an individual.

As an American-born child of parents who immigrated during their late childhood/early adulthood, my upbringing was very Americanized. English was primarily spoken around the home, Filipino traditions were not common practice in our every day lives. I never learned about “mano po” until my teen years when I mistakenly shook the hand of an elder family member I had met for the first time.

I was proud to say I was Filipino but inside I always felt like I was never Filipino enough.

Mahal and Moon. Through making jewelry with love (“mahal”) I am rediscovering both myself as an individual and the culture that I was born into.
